Race and National Origin Discrimination
In addition to the protections against discrimination, federal and state laws also provide important additional protections for employees...
Know Your Rights
Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act Federal prohibits employers from discriminating against employees because of their race, ethnicity, color, or national origin. The New York State and City Human Rights Law also prohibits discriminatory conduct on the basis of race and national origin. Originally part of the Civil Rights Act of 1866, Section 1981 also prohibits discrimination on the basis of race and ethnicity. These laws provide powerful protection for employees from being treated less favorably, receiving lesser job opportunities or promotional opportunities, being subjected to harassment, and from termination of their employment because of their race or national origin.
